Pour one out for all the philosophy professors who have to go home every thanksgiving and listen to their STEM nephew explain why people are like lobsters.
The arrogance of people who say "philosophy is useless" is astounding. As though we have finished thinking, and all of our ideas are now correct.

The ignorance of philosophers about science is more astounding than that. FWIW.

I've never met any philosopher really ignorant about science, and certainly not one more ignorant than most people. And I meet a lot of philosophers.

perhaps less arrogance and more bankruptcy of curiosity and investigation due to the regimented existence under markets and private economies - imposed by media, education etc. where the only "useful" things are what result in a business or a profit and so on...

I used to think philosophy was useless, but then I realized it's just that philosophers aren't very good at making philosophy interesting (to me at least). Science fiction was my gateway drug into philosophy.
