He got elevated in the media because he can do stats but has no meaningful understanding of politics beyond electability snapshots, which makes him a very useful idiot for pushing a status quo oriented narrative that appears legitimate.
Nate Silver has predictably gone from "nerdy stats guy who uses algorithms to predict elections" to "nerdy centrist guy who uses his media platform to try to push the Democrats to the right".

I think you put this better than I really could have. Maybe add that once he got a taste of the big time, surrounded by these folks, he suddenly also had a big vested interest in staying there.

This is such an excellent case study of how someone acquires a credential or credibility for a limited domain & it then puts a false sheen on all their other garbage opinions. Of course, humanity might not live to use this information for future epochs! But don't trust Data!
