We don't manage interpersonal relationships with our families, friends, tribe, etc. by anything resembling capitalism. In fact, families are run on the proverbial "From each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs" basis.
this works pretty well for groups of like fifty people
i mean... that wouldn't be that outlandish? colonialism was driven by capitalism. if aliens come here to take our shit, it seems plausible they'd be similarly motivated? capitalism isn't *unnatural* any more than any other human construct. unethical, sure, but not unnatural
naturalistic fallacy seems a poor basis to attack capitalism on when we have... *checks* the last like five hundred years of human history?
you mean, like, trade? . . . . . the thing that happens all the time everywhere?
Trade isn't what leftists are complaining about when we attack capitalism. When we say capitalism we mean the system by which people can make money just by being the owner of a company, without actually contributing any of their own labor.
There are SF plots like this. The aliens tend not to be friendly. They want to do things like strip-mine the planet, steal our unique genetics, etc. In other words, the aliens are us in alien suits.
Which just feels weird. Like, Earth has nothing that isn't plentiful throughout the cosmos, so any aliens who say things like that are lying. And if profit motive could drive space exploration, we'd be further along.
