If it was human nature to be selfish we wouldn't even reach tribe level of society. "Oh, every other living creature is out to kill me or steal my food, so I should build a society with a bunch of potential killers or thieves just in case I end up out kill and out steal them"

The argument is that communist theories of production - “from each according to their ability...” in its simplest formulation, fail to provide sufficient motivation for people to provide the range of goods and services that satiate the varied demands of society.
