It gives you the freedom to choose, but since there is competition, one's choice is determined by what skill they can offer. At least it moved us from strict chains of class to individual merit. Not the best cure for all problems, but better than horrors of communist dictatorship

Which is why I always get so angry at Randians and an-caps. The economy doesn't function on the dealings of rational actors. Capitalism depends on exploitation, manipulation, and marketing to work.

I've recently decided that it's not capitalism per se, it's the energy that oil has put into capitalism that has brought us to this point where life is unsustainable.

It favors individual/collective opportunism while still relying on centralized organization for coercion, protection and "growth". There is no freedom in situations of unequal control and distribution of resources - the whole idea of one person one vote is completely negated.
