This was made very clear to me recently when I was required to take a personality test as part of a job application. The questions were geared toward making sure I was obedient, an extraverted team player and eager to do unreasonable amounts of work every day until I drop dead.

The test told me to be honest, which is funny, since it's clearly designed to screen out everyone who doesn't lie to some extent. By the time I was halfway through the questions, I no longer wanted the job.

It is even more extreme than that. You have to be "engaged" and you have to be surveyed in engagement and discuss improving engagement. As far as I can tell engagement is really working with management. There appears to be no room for self starters anymore.

Amen. I take a craftsman's pride in my work, and I genuinely enjoy certain parts of my job, but it's ridiculous to expect passion out of every task or job. Who the hell feels passionate about tracking down a missing comma or cleaning waste for minimum wage?

It's cultish. You have to at least pretend to have drunk the Kool Aid otherwise you're marked as "not one of us". Also, that 5 day 40 hour contract you signed is totally meaningless. "Any other duties as required by management".

as a former service industry drone, I am infinitely shocked by any wage slave who convincingly exhibits perkiness beyond their basic work task. I am equally shocked and appalled by customers who expect as much.

I wonder if rich people could not be selecting ppl like dogs were selected. Kill those who dont obey, feed those who obey.
