Britain is currently in what I like to call "Schrödinger's Brexit": it is simultaneously refusing to leave AND to stay in the Union. The difference being that looking at it doesn't solve the problem; it just makes the whole thing look even more confusing.
Sometimes we just have to accept that certain things are fundamentally unknowable, such as how the universe got created, what consciousness is, or what exactly happens when you try to leave the European Union.

Fear of immigrants was the main cause of the Leave vote. I haven't heard any argument to disprove that.
