You know America is super racist because after WWII we adopted the word "Nazi" as an insult, but not for racists who want to get rid of minorites or anything, but just people who are like…a little too strict on the rules.

Long story short, a "grammar nazi" should be someone who enforces "white" grammar, and tries to purge dialects used by ethnic minorities from usage. Which of course, ironically, is often how we use it now, but without meaning it that way.

I think in the case of "grammar nazi" it's specifically "the ones who believe in one True Pure Way" and not "being too strict on the rules" in general.
