To neoliberals, "democracy" will always mean one and only one thing: elections where the politicians answer to their corporate donors, and corporations whose executives do NOT answer to their workers and/or the public. "Democracy" is when undemocratic businesses govern society.

The two biggest threats to this are always politicians like Bernie Sanders/AOC who bypass corporate donors and answer directly to their constituents; and far worse, extra-political democratic organizations like unions/co-ops. In other words, functioning democracy is the enemy.
