Gee, swerving around at the last minute. That pretty much sounds... random. How is random behavior better than determined behavior again?
The best answer to the problem of free will vs determinism is still Lucretius who was like "fuck I don't know, maybe at the last second atoms just swerve around freely or something. Get off my case, okay?"

It's how genetic modifications occur. It doesn't happen every single time but it can happen sometimes and that's enough for 'complexity' to arise.
