If the rest of the United States and the world imposed sanctions that economically isolated Mississippi, their economy would collapse and people would starve. Every modern country depends on trade. Sanctions are indirect violence, enforced by the threat of direct violence.

Ppl like Pinker like to preach about, how peaceful our world is today. But that completely disregards that violence in the capitalist world has simply taken other forms. Nowadays you can pressure, conquer and exploit other nations without firing without firing any shots.
