The solution presented by Thanos ignores the fact that the problem isn't a lack of resources. Killing half the population will not suddenly create a fair distribution of food and wealth. Problems with social inequity cannot be solved by snapping your fingers.

Thanos' plan was a little daft if you ask me. He could've just as easily doubled the resources instead of halving the population. I guess he's a glass half empty kind of chap.
