That's certainly a topic for discussion. One small thing I do, whenever a major thunder storm rolls thru my town and the lights stay on, I drop the power co. a short tweet, thanking them for maintainintg a resilient infrastructure. Seriously. Lots of people there who work hard.

the military don't defend the USA, they defend US interests, which is why they are deployed outside the country

The US military has a world-wide army, navy, and air force and the navy has an extra navy and army just in case.

Take it from an outsider looking in, but compared to the most of the world's 200 or so nations, it might very well be the greatest. Light years ahead especially from an economic & freedom standpoint.

Maybe what we really mean to do is to thank them for their willingness to serve - even if those good intentions from individuals are often perverted by those higher up who pull the strings.
