I guess I never thought of utilitarianism as 'moral.' I see it as an unfortunately sometimes necessary ethical perspective. It's easy to prefer deontology, but that raises its own questions.

Of course, that makes all other moral systems "I want less people to be less happy" Any Deontology or virtue ethics that isnt actively horrifying is just a heuristic for a utilitarian backend that humans aren't capable of acting on.
