When people yearn for "bipartisanship" to return to American politics, they are talking about the time when the two parties politely debated whether or not gay people should be allowed to exist, while both agreeing to bomb other countries.

People also seem to yearn for bipartisanship here in Australia, without realising that we largely have it, on things like sending refugees to offshore prison camps and eroding privacy protections.

Or when both parties supported environmentalism, before the lobbies bought the Republicans. Or one of a zillion other similar things. But I guess creating false equivilancies and assuming the worst about individuals by default is more fun, right?
