It's because libertarians have taken "personal liberty" to an extreme where only their own liberty matters. They look at slavery and instead of saying "Everyone should be free" they say "How dare you infringe on my freedom to own slaves." It's Dixieland fascism.

It’s also rooted in libertarianism’s DNA. The American notion of “all social services are bad” didn’t come into being until around when it started becoming harder to write language into legislation that would deny those services to POC populations.

The origin point of American libertarianism is basically “If I have to share it, no one should have it.”

I read this tweet four hours ago and thought you said "librarians". I've spent a considerable part of those four hours thinking dang that's a weird take on librarians

Thought libertarianism was that that there is no boss except you? Did I sleep through a class? Of course, too much of modern libertarianism is some version of “starve the moochers, i.e. anyone other than me who my tax dollars go to help.” Fascists are useful fools for this view.

There are more types of libertarianism than just the one. Libertarian Socialists are the original Libertarians.

I frankly think they’re fairly unrelated, I mean Germany was never a particularly liberal place. I think fascism taps into an emotional disillusion and hatred and just directs it into a cult of personality.

I think what he's describing is an almost distinct Anglo-American phenomenon. The same crowd will readily insist that Nazis were leftists, for instance, and I don't think it's because they want to repudiate the Nazis as extremists. The entire völkisch agenda leaves them cold.
