The ontological argument is one of many examples of why I question the “greatest hits” format for teaching intro to philosophy. Is it wise to teach a history of philosophy (through primary sources!) at the same time you teach a conceptual framework for understanding philosophy?

I think you mean “the ontological argument”. If so, let’s stop pretending there is such a thing as *the* ontological argument. There are many different versions with varying degrees of plausibility.
