That phrase "nothing in life is free" is true, but it isn't money that it costs, it is what money represents – other people's labor. That is to say, everything in life relies on the support of others. Everything is cooperative. We all depend on each other.

it always has been though. we have never existed independently of nature's resources. humans have to eat, shit & live somewhere. the problem is the scales have tipped to such an incredibly imbalanced degree due to obsession with money, materialism & disregard for sustainability.

Well put, and to think that not only we're not alone but that this dépendance is asymmetrical, brings forth a profound and urgent need to take responsibility for our place in the group

Under capitalism, labor is socialized and profits are privatized.

No, because capitalists do not provide useful labour. They control our ability to work and live, and benefit from the surplus value (profit) that our labour provides. That is why capitalists are not just exploitative, but parasitic.

Money can never serve as a true representation of the inherent worth of anything. The capitalist monetary system distorts the value of other peoples’ labor and robs us of our humanity by commodifying the biosphere and all human interactions.
