Friends don't let friends become capital owners!
-
That's what poor lazy people say.
-
Lazy people love owning capital. It means money without working
-
You will need to tell me how that works. My house doesn't pay me. In fact it costs me an awful lot to live in it every month.
-
I don't know the market where you live but around here houses are constantly accumulating value
-
Yeah, but you can't spend that value. It is locked into that asset until you sell it, at which point you are taxed on any gains. Owning a home doesn't make you a bad person. Selling houses contributes tax to society. How is it bad?
-
Just one small property isn’t enough to live on, but with sufficient property, you can become a rentier and just make money off people paying you to use your stuff without doing much of anything.
-
I know that is where he would get eventually, but that would reinforce my point, capital isn't the problem, poor regulations that allow the emergence of landlord classes could certainly be considered one.

People with money live longer. People with money tend to be more conservative. White people live longer. White people tend to be more conservative. It's the people who survive capitalism into their 60s-90s that are conservative. The non-conservatives are killed off.
-
So it's survivorship bias.
-
exactly. also conservative policies are often really good for older, wealthier, white people. and those policies have usually benefited the same person for their entire lives. it's no wonder Mr. Bart Senatornaugh is typically a conservative old white dude!

Having kids is a big one, too. I've seen friends slam over hard the instant they learned they were expecting. Surreal, actually.
-
Which is crazy, because wouldn’t they want a less hellish world for their kids to live in? Particularly one where they don’t risk being shot for just going to school?
-
I was a teacher. I don't think most parents give a damn about their kids. (OK, maybe just the mouthy ones are like that.) The kids become the hammer they use to force their agendas on others. They sure don't seem to care at all about the world their kids will inherit.
-
As a child abuse survivor who had one good and one shitty parent...I have to agree with your assessment. (At least mostly.)
-
People who genuinely want kids and have hope unfortunately get drowned out by people like my mother who had kids because it’s the LifeScript(TM) and she mostly wanted a reason to complain. Then you have the people who def don’t give a fuck about their kids and actively hate them
-
QSL the "Life Script". At a certain point, having kids, like getting married, is the "cool jeans" we all have to be wearing. And many people do both for exactly that reason. More evidence that to be a competent adult, you have to leave adolescence behind.
