In what sense is the latter nihilism? It being bad I will grant, but I don't understand why you see it as specifically nihilistic?
People think of nihilism as believing that nothing matters, but there's another kind of nihilism even more common: thinking that everything matters. The sports game, color of the paint, and political elections are all given equal weight, and antagonized over with utmost gravity.
