People who complain about "virtue signaling" are just projecting onto others their own inability to even conceive of having any concerns that don't affect them directly. So to them, everyone else must be faking it.

99.99% of the time when somone is accused of "virtue signaling" they're just doing something nice. The accuser can't fathom doing something nice withing trying to get something for themselves out of it.
