The marketplace of ideas seems like a place to buy food, which one might crave understanding and received nourishment. But in reality it's closer to a clothing store, which you already own a ideological shirt which you want to match a whole outfit of ideas to.
Yes, isn't it handy the way ownership of the monopoly of definition when combined with control over the public's sources of "information" helps SO much when it comes to "shaping consensus?" All things work for 'good.' Praise The Lured!

Yeah... But that has a limit. Businesses don't make money from phantasies. At least - not normally.
Ideas cost nothing to give away, creating a market place creates the incentive to withhold those ideas. Purely in order to create need.
