Personally, I favor reverse utilitarianism.. or would it be half-utilitarianism? Either way, just focus on minimizing the suffering side of the equation, let people figure out the happiness side themselves.
Utilitarians are going to be pretty pissed when the results of the ethical calculus tell us that the best result is achieved by teaching children that utilitarianism is false.

I'm pretty sure utilitarianism teaches us that the best ethical calculus is to not create children at all. No sufferers means no suffering!
