"Experimental philosophy" sounds like when you teach half the students utilitarianism and half deontology and see which group uses what they learned to explain away their immoral behavior.

major difference is that utilitarians sometimes show signs of actually applying their philosophy rather than just using it to post hoc rationalize an existing belief. see joshua greene's "the secret joke of kant's soul".

Not sure that's a good thing...applied utilitarianism leads as easily to things like kulaks being liquidated as it does to anything not-shitty.
