another reason is that the whole concept is inherently asymmetrical and tied in with hierarchy. you can freely oppress people while being perfectly civil. you can’t resist oppression while being civil. so a moral code that obliges everyone to be civil entrenches power structures.

Civility doesnt work for you because you cant win arguments. If you try to defend gender identity of course youll end not being civil. You will loose argument and start being emotional and less civil.
