Paranoia over Chinese hackers helped us build the NSA into a complete State surveillance apparatus, but these Russian hackers are much better, so we'll have to build something much more horrifyingly dystopian to stop them.

They're keeping a low profile since Operation Aurora. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Aurora … I remember from my time working at Google that China never stopped trying to hack email accounts of human rights activists. What do you think the "state sponsored hacking attempt" banner was all about?

I mean, Google uses that banner now for any state-sponsored hacking attempts they detect (like from Russia), but they never identify which country Google thinks is doing the hacking. Google is very diplomatic that way…

As mentioned, same as before. Also continuing to worm into larger infrastructures through MNCs as there is a Party office within every company operating in China. Also fucking up competition along the Belt and Road path while increasing repression on their citizens and activists.

I agree that media coverage is important in building hysteria and there’s no more coverage on Chinese hackers. However US cyber security experts are still very focused on preventing/treating threats likely coming out of China. Which probably just underlines your point, honestly.
