You mean nobody owns it but the workers/State, I guess. You can't trust people, bottom line. Some group will find a way to monopolize the benefits from that production. Then there's who directs production and new ideas?

If Bill Gates had said from the get go, "Microsoft is owned by the workers and any profit will be equally divided". How would that play out? I can't even imagine.

It's capitalism - by pointing at natural resources (such as land to live from) and declaring them someone 'private property', thereby creating a huge propertyless class that is now forced into wage-slavery - that has 'predistributed' the earth's wealth into the hands of the few.
