So, thanks for acknowledging that unconditional basic income, which you have a strong habit of criticizing, would preserve the most healthy and societally-beneficial kinds of competition while freeing us from the most unhealthy and destructive kinds of competition.

Exactly. When Donald Trump says he wants American workers to compete with Chinese workers, he isn't talking about how fast they work, he's talking about lowering American wages to parity so capitalist bosses can take more profits

Yeah, and companies competing for those workers as well. THIS IS HOW YOU BUILD SUPPLY AND DEMAND CURVES. I'm appalled that you actually believe people talking about the free market never came up with that.
-
You mean the Supply & Demand curve in the macroeconomy where the Demand curve can go in any direction at all as long as it doesn't go backwards and the Supply curve that may not even exist? (Source Prof Steve Keen)

Theres no free lunch and someone always suffers In NZ its been those hard workers who lost jobs when the jobs were exported in the first instance and then were forced into low paid insecure work on individual agreements with few benefits like pensions redundancy or overtime money
-
Many job benefits have been lost and the power of collectivity through unions has been beaten out of workers If your job is insecure and you have no savings due to low pay and struggle and have no alternatives you're less likely to challenge the boss' decisions

They don't really compete to make something better for consumers. Only if that makes them profit more. Sometimes it takes a better ad campaign, or some strategic move and they don't have to make a better product then.
