Germany is *not* the leader in the school model. While there are some interesting things about it, dividing and tracking students into different schools at the young age of 10-12 has major implications for individuals' opportunities as well as equity in society

You could be right, but I'd have thought that educating people in order that they go into the professions had a long ignoble history. And that the idea of education for education's sake is a fairly recent invention?
