Peace in the world depends on peace within. If we have that we can approach problems in a spirit of compassion, dialogue and respect for the rights of others—always a better solution than resorting to a use of weapons and force. External disarmament depends on inner disarmament.

  4. Japan seems remarkably...calm. I barely notice people wearing more masks here, and while is a topic of discussion, its usually with more curiosity than fear. Any thoughts on why that is?

Breaking: that Hui student who was interned in Xinjiang for 23 months for accessing her U of Washington Gmail account outs her real identity and story. Most outrageous: the U of Washington neither speaks out for her, nor offers substantive help.

I shouldn't be surprised, but it's sort of amazing to me how many Americans (on Twitter) seem to think America is a uniquely evil force in world affairs. Is it a white privilege thing? I don't know. But at some point it devolves from well deserved self-critique into pathology
