It's because the only time Africans and dark skinned black characters appear on this show, they're portrayed as "backwards". They choose to highlight these issues without showing anything else about Africans. This isn't the first time. It isn't a fluke.
On a scene from #TheGoodDoctor, in which a young girl has surgery to fix the damage caused by her Kenyan family mutilating her with circumcision at a young age.
Yeah, so ew.
This scene pisses me off. It isn't because it doesn't happen - it's a real issue.

This is the only second dark skinned black woman and they typecast her again. Shame on them. I was and am so mad, that the thought of writing about this injustice made my ears prickle with anger. Micro and macro aggressions are heaped upon us everywhere.

They hurt the most when you least expect them. It's unfair and it sucks. I should be able to watch a film without being hyperaware. We shouldn't have to be hurt. We don't deserve this.

Also, THOSE AREN'T KENYAN ACCENTS!!!!!!! Also, how do these two dark skinned people have such a light daughter? Especially since, as Kenyans, they likely aren't mixed. Wyd. Make it make sense.

I don't know any Kenyans who do this. While that doesn't negate the issue's validity, it did make the typecast much more personal.

It wouldn't have angered me as much if they didn't name my country. The shock of hearing my country's name spurred me to consciously acknowledge how wrong this was.
