Case=a box to pack your clothes in when you go on holiday. 🧳 Totally agree! Also people are not their organ or disease, and should not be referred to as ‘the gallbladder on my list’ or ‘the pancreatic cancer patient’... so hard to overcome our jargon but needs reflection... 🤔

Actually ‘person’ seems to cover it. We strive for ‘patient-centred care’ not ‘case centred’. Well done for highlighting, I know you always see a person with a set of symptoms not just a ‘case’ or ‘condition’ 👍

I hate when people are referred to as “cases”. It is banned in my research group and should be banned by news organisations

Let’s not underestimate the benefits of collaborators making a ‘small’ contribution. For some, collecting a few patients data is a well-supported, minimal-commitment, gentle introduction to research methodology. It serves everybody’s agenda to recruit interest for future studies

Promoting collaboration, research & publication in science by people from diverse academic background & places should be commended & encouraged. Research requieres guidance which sometimes is lacking in many areas. Supporting this is the right thing to do. (1/x)

Would it be acceptable for to collect data across hundreds of LMIC hospitals and for a few individuals to then take all the credit? I don't think so, and the same principles apply regardless of where data is collected.

Based on this prioritisation exercise we developed the 3 study of quality and outcomes in global cancer surgery. We published the GS 3 protocol in 2019 & subsequently completed data collection- over 15,000 patient records entered! 🔗

Can we make future workshops single use plastic free? The carbon footprint in flights is staggering; this is the least we can do. Maybe we can lead the change in international hotels: ozone h20 generator+paper cup versus awful plastic bottles. Refillables?
