We’ve won some big victories for working families in Massachusetts and across the country, but there’s a lot more to do. So today I’m making it official: I’m running for re-election to keep up the fight.
Billionaire CEOs and giant corporations laugh all the way to the bank after exploiting every tax loophole in the book. So if Republicans were serious about reducing the deficit—instead of just inflicting pain on working people—that’s where they’d start.
Guess what? The nation’s biggest bank—already too big to fail—got a bargain deal on a failing bank that made it even bigger. I’m deeply troubled and calling for answers.
Understand this: the House GOP has shown that they’d rather take food and health care away from people who are struggling than take $1 more in taxes from a billionaire.
If you’re enjoying your weekend, thank the labor movement.
And if you’re winding down with a movie or TV show, thank the working people who create the stories we love.
I stand with
Republicans in Congress are threatening to push our nation off an economic cliff, throw millions of Americans out of work, and destroy our good name around the world if they don’t get their way on the budget. That isn’t negotiating—that’s hostage-taking, pure and simple.
“The validity of the public debt of the United States…shall not be questioned.” That’s from the 14th Amendment. It gives the president the authority to make sure the U.S. keeps paying the bills. If Republicans won’t stop holding our economy hostage, he should be ready to use it.
CEOs made tens of millions for driving Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank into the ground. They told me they won’t return a single nickel. So I’ve got a bipartisan bill to make that decision for failed bank executives and claw back their compensation.
With every new radical ruling and every new ethics scandal, the Supreme Court faces more and more of a legitimacy crisis. We must #ExpandTheCourt to rebalance it, and we must institute a binding code of ethics for the justices.
Confidence in the Supreme Court sank to its lowest point in at least 50 years in 2022, after the Dobbs decision that overturned the right to abortion and led to state bans and other abortion restrictions. https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-poll-abortion-confidence-declining-0ff738589bd7815bf0eab804baa5f3d1?utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter…
Make no mistake: this is what Republican extremists want to do all around the country. I won’t stop fighting for a national law codifying the right to an abortion so we can sweep all these horrific bans off the books.
I’ve got a bipartisan bill which basically says this to bank executives: you can’t take on a ton of risk, pay yourselves a ton of money, and expect to keep that money when you blow up your bank.
Tax filing should be free—not an opportunity for giant corporations to make big bucks. That’s why I’ve been in this fight for years. And when we stay in the fight, we make progress.
In 2019, a government watchdog found the Pentagon’s 14 largest contractors had hired 1,700 former senior Pentagon officials. That’s an entire small town—and the vast majority came from jobs managing contracts.
Let’s slap a padlock on this revolving door.
The last time Silicon Valley Bank’s CEO testified to the Senate Banking Committee, he was lobbying for looser regulations.
Today, he came back to talk about how his bank had failed—under weaker oversight.
I’m fighting to put strong protections in place and prevent more crashes.
Final tally: 44 - 23. We are so deeply proud to announce that we, the workers of REI Boston, have voted to unionize with @UFCW1445
Thank you to everybody in our community and across the REI Union for your words of support as we fought to make this union a reality.
After years of fighting for reform, and after calling out Betsy DeVos for standing in the way of this, I’m very happy to see these teachers, nurses, & other public servants finally benefiting from student debt cancelation under the president’s leadership.
The GOP's budget plans boil down to a basic idea: making government work better for the rich and powerful and worse for everyone else. That’s why they push tax breaks for billionaires, coddle wealthy tax cheats, and try to slash programs for working people. I’m fighting back.
There are commonsense steps we as a nation can—and must—take to reduce gun violence. I’m going to stay on this—including working to ban assault weapons.
This #MothersDay, I’m thinking of my mother’s courage. I’m thinking of all the mamas fighting for their families. And I’m staying in the fight for a government that has their backs—from ensuring universal child care and paid leave to protecting reproductive freedom.
She kept saying, "We are not going to lose this house.” She’d never worked outside the home. She was terrified. But she dug deep, she put on that dress, she walked down the street to Sears, and she got a minimum wage job that saved our house and our family.
My daddy couldn’t work for a while after he had a heart attack. Bills piled up. One day, when I walked into my parents’ bedroom, I saw my mother’s face was red & puffy. A dress was laid out over the bedspread—the dress that only came out for weddings, graduations, & funerals:
Defaulting on the national debt is not an option. Congressional Republicans already decided to swell the deficit when they gave massive tax breaks to billionaires and giant corporations. They don’t get to turn around now and say they won’t pay the bill.
The SAFE Banking Act is a long overdue step, and we can’t stop there. We’ve got to legalize marijuana, expunge criminal records, and address decades of harmful and racially discriminatory cannabis laws.
THE WAIT IS OVER!!!
We have the date for our union election and are unbelievably thrilled that we get to vote next Monday, May 15th.
Stay tuned for more stories from our coworkers as we get ready for our big day. See you then
You can’t run an economy without roads or bridges. And you can’t run an economy without child care. We can make this system work for kids, families, and child care workers with a national investment—and that’s what I’m fighting for.
Big bank CEOs have been able to load up on risk, boost short-term profits, and walk away with ginormous amounts of money even when their banks fail. Instead of incentivizing recklessness, let’s pass my bipartisan bill to claw back executive compensation after bank failures.
If Congressional Republicans are actually serious about reducing the national debt, then let’s talk about getting billionaires and giant corporations to pay their fair share.
If someone misses a credit card payment—even just by a few hours—they could get slapped with a late fee up to 5X bigger than the actual cost to the company. Now lobbyists are trying to stop the CFPB from fighting back. Let’s get some answers.
Service members who aren’t getting pay increases they earned.
Kids who can’t start at new schools.
Spouses who can’t take new jobs.
Secretary Austin’s response to my letter shows the human consequences & national security stakes of this hostage-taking.
