In 2015 I was asked by Trader Joe's to go ahead and take maternity leave, which meant quit. It was a brand new store and I didn't work there long enough to qualify for any paid time off. They also wouldn't allow me to sit down to cashier so I just stretched alot.

Thank you. It would be great if you also talk about how this happens to men who dare to take the paternity benefits offered to them -- men taking paternity leave helps women and families in so many ways. Our culture needs to change to support men who do that.

At my workplace, men are celebrated for taking paternity leave. I, however, was told after a c-section that I had to report back to work the next week because my maternity leave had been denied. (I fought it and won, but had to fight while my baby was in the nicu.)
