It would be an interesting experiment. The "hot button issues" I recall from school involved major political parties and what kind of car your dad drove (GM v. Ford). Is that where ideological rigidity is established or can it be moved? Plenty of HS confirmation bias.

We had a propaganda unit in 5th grade. We had to produce commercials and use 5 different types of propaganda techniques.

I wish there was a ‘how to think independently from your parents’ class.

Everybody wants students trained in critical thinking, but I've never seen a curriculum that even begins to do that, perhaps bc so few K-12 educators are skilled in critical thinking themselves. I'm not even sure it's possible to teach distinct from subject matter expertise.

I teach critical thinking without the propaganda. Students love it and I LOVE to teach it. So many eye-openers. It's amazing to see what can be taught.

I had a great HS history teacher that taught those things. Forever grateful.

All of his tests were true/false with a catch. The statement you had to judge was 4-7 sentences long. If it was true (every word of it) you could answer true. If not you had to explain what part was false.
