headphones with built in sound cards will end up being better than the crappy one built into the phone anyways.

professionals are probably just going to use analog headphones on their gear anyways...
you are the minority but, you can use a 3.5mm adapter it'll use the on board audio or the one in the adapter. It's no different than before.
There are some adapters that allow both but yeah that's there only probably.
To be honest I’d rather have had this as the design for the Pixel phone. Darn it Google...
