Chinese officials told Reuters they want to transform Macau into a financial and tourism hub "like Singapore" That is some next-level trolling of HK. It's also laugh-out-loud absurd as anyone who follows Macau knows. Beijing must really be getting worried.https://www.reuters.com/article/us-macau-politics-exclusive/exclusive-protest-free-macau-to-win-financial-policy-rewards-from-china-idUSKBN1YG0EJ …

Maybe through land reclamation? (On a completely unrelated note, I didn’t realize the literal meaning of “reclamation” in English until now
but the sea was never ours) -
This is true. It’s also the most densely populated place in the world so I can’t imagine the locals would be thrilled. Can imagine some parents “ok you go Disneyland with Aunty, daddy is going to the casino”

Don't casinos require advanced security & tech? HK's value is in its banking system, which grew in part b/c of criminals needing safe, secure places to hide their $ from opium & other sales. Why wouldn't casinos & private security help China replicate HK's financial paradigm?

This is also true. But i guess it depends if the casinos are owned or partially owned by mainland Chinese folks.
