New article on the importance of unstated basic beliefs when interpretating texts. I try to enumerate mine and find out how hard it is.http://www.everythingstudies.com/30-fundamentals

Excellent! This is one of the ideas central to my Doqxa project. Separating moral values might be valuable. I notice you only called out one: #16. But given #23, which I agree with, it could prove difficult to do.

Hm I'll have a look at doqxa. I don't quite get your point about 16 and 23.

I don’t have much to share on doqxa right now. But it seems you might be interested.

Maybe, depends on whether it's different from other similar attempts (like Kialo).

Yes, very different to Kialo. The central idea is problem solving.

I should also say, it is as much about aiming for shared understanding, despite disagreements. I'm finishing up a short book that lays out the vision: the philosophy, mechanics, social psychology, benefits, applications...

If you believe David Deutsch and Karl Popped, which I do, beliefs do not rest on foundations. They are networks of theories which are always necessarily in some degree of conflict.

I think that's somewhat true. Are you objecting to the word "fundamentals"?

Karl Popped.😂😂 Yes, basically. I do like your project there. And to some extent I’m describing something like an assumption that I have about all my other beliefs.

Well it's a matter of partial narratives like everything else. It's not true that beliefs are derived from fundamental axioms, but nor is it true that they're a bean bag where nothing is downstream from everything else. Maybe "30-piece background" would've been a better title.

You put in words better what I was trying to hint at here for a specific casehttps://nintil.com/2016/07/20/empirical-questions-at-the-root-of-ideological-disagreements/ …

Yes, something like this would be good, like a standardized ideological "fingerprint" you could use to contrast people. My approach is more illegible but I think there's an advantage in letting the individual pick their issues themselves. It'll give better information.

Finally read this all the way through. Excellent. With perhaps a quibble or difference in verbiage here or there, I largely agree with you on every point. Nice to find a kindred intellect. Perhaps we could go digging for an actual difference :)
