One of the things that stood out for me is that generational trauma is real. Let me example
In the book, a patient named Gabe started experiencing insomnia when he turned 19. At 3am he just couldnt go back to sleep and felt freezing. He thought if he slept something terrible would happen. Due to his insomnia and depression he left his sports scholarship.
He finally went to a therapist and she asked why can't he sleep. He didn't know why, then she asked about his family.
Gabe mentioned he had an uncle who died 30 years ago prior. The uncle was 19 and died while he was trying to fix a wire. He fell down into the snow and froze to death. The family was so devastated that they never talked about it again.
Now let's compare, Gabe was 19 when his insomnia hit, and his uncle was 19 when he died and froze to death. Gabe woke up "freezing" and was afraid to go back to sleep similar to his uncle who was afraid to let go of the pole cause he would die.
Although Gabe's uncle died YEARS before he was born, the trauma carried on to Gabe cause his family buried it and still feel pain from it. This is scientific, before we are born, when we are in the stomach we witness everything. From parents arguing, to parents sadness.
Sometimes we carry trauma from our own parents. Ex; your mom marrying your father who is emotionally unavailable, as you grow you will tend to seek out guys who are also emotionally unavailable. Carrying on the trauma.
the first born daughter...yeah i’m definitely getting this book now
