I’m reading on #integratedinformationtheory right now and trying to get it clear (spec. Koch’s “Feeling of Life Itself”).
I’m failing to see how IIT resolves the hard problem? So we’ve moved from stuff = qualia (somehow) to causal goings on = qualia (somehow). Missing somethin?

Panpsychism can be made consistent w/these ideas but most current versions aren't driven by these concerns and look to me to be ad hoc, implausible, and based on questionable assumptions

The functional role of subjective experience (SE) is a gaping hole in IIT. Modeling the causal function of SE within inorganic systems isn’t possible absent a working model of SE within organic systems.https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2018.02714/full …

I don't know :) yet, feeling/interiority must be a fundamental aspect of physical reality if sentient beings exist. I can't imagine feeling arising from non-feeling matter. It seems that drawing the line at the cell wall doesn't reflect the reality of sub-cell chemical processes.

If a computer simulation renders a ball inside a cup, is it true that the ball is inside a cup? The cup in another sense exists as bits flowing over circuits. Does _any_ cup really have an "inside" when its form exists outside the atoms that make it up? Outsides _do_ insides.
