I wonder what Francisco Varela would be into if he was alive today. Interoception? Predictive processing? I don't think so. Maybe he'd have just vanished down the contemplative rabbit hole. Or psychedelic research? A massive data driven microphenomenology project?

What he was working on when he died: cross-frequency coupling, neurodynamics of epilepsy (using ECOG) microphenomenology + neurodynamics of consciousness, modeling minimal life & autonomous systems, phenomenological philosophy, Buddhist philo and cogsci of meditation [1]
