Out of my element a bit here.. And only read the abstract, but isn't 'origin' even a bit strong (as culture and history are also 'origins' of the discovery of phenomena)?

it isn't clear from the abstract, but it seems like this is a recruitment of the favored symbol 'nature' for a return to symbolic service in the roles that 'naturalism' was happy to isolate it from.
