We have forgotten that there's a study of nature that comes before science just as there's a study of people that comes before the humanities. A study that has as much room for the poet as the scientist.

We need to saunter with our students, combining the best of Musonius Rufus and the best of Thoreau. Some of my best classes have been the ones where I take my students hiking, here in SD's prairies, in AK's coastal forests, or in C.A.'s tropical forests. Peripatetic enviro phil.
