      Which philosopher, were we to simply delete his or her work from history, would leave the biggest absence for this single reason: because the philosopher was so unique it would be unlikely anyone else could come up with the same influential thoughts?

      Honestly I don't think there's *any* single philosopher that essential. No one person is all that unique. For anyone who comes up with a cool idea, others who came up with the same thing can pretty much always be found.

          I think the way that Zhuangzi put his thoughts is part of those thoughts and removing *the Zhuangzi* would leave a significant absence, therefore. (Though I am also skeptical of absolute uniqueness!)

          I think Zhuanzi is about as close to an answer as I can imagine (though how many people are you actually deleting here). It’s kind of weird when you start thinking about it, but many of the people that are considered powerhouse philosophers are really just synthesizers
