Anyone have good suggestions about where to look for the history of why cybernetics was eclipsed (at least for a minute) by what became classical cognitive science? maybe you have thoughts @joe_dewhurst?

The Dupuy book you refer to is The Mechanization of Mind, right? Great book - I wrote a review of it, comparing the rejection of the 'perceptron' to the rejection of the Bohm model in physics. An interesting case study of a 'biased theory choice'

Oooh thanks for this- I always teach about Grey Walter in my robotics class but I never think of him in terms of "cybernetics" - I think the term is messy and got used differently in the US and UK, so I never quite know what to do with it. Grabbing this from the library today!
