    The difference is subtle, but comes up a lot to professionals who do a lot of “evaluations” either in the form of job interviews, perf evaluations, etc. Frequently the real world asks others to evaluate us at the same time it asks us to evaluate ourselves. Don’t mix the two

    Reminder that introspection is yourself looking at yourself. If you’re evaluating how others think of you, that’s more of an “extrospection” and is probably a recipe for self doubt and sadness

    Offline first apps that merge data without bugs are pretty cool just saying

    From our NYT story tonight: no indication the app to tally votes in Iowa was hacked/breached. What happened appears to be much more mundane and commonplace: people didn’t understand how to use the technology, and bugs in internet speed/connectivity led to a lot of malfunctions.

    The DNC's fuckup of Iowa is terrible and hilarious but nobody is *rigging* a caucus where everybody has cameras & there's a paper record of the results at every precinct. No matter how much you want to believe something is rigged, it's not rigged.

    I wonder if this is the problem. The caucus organizers get it in their head that “it’s gotta be an app”, then everyone worth their salt tells them no, so it becomes a race to find the least knowledgeable folks

    Tonight's Iowa caucus app fiasco is one example of where political tech can learn from the approach of civic tech. Any civic technologist worth their salt would've told caucus organizers to stick with paper tallies and staff up their help hotline, not pitched a shiny new app.
