The climate on Teixeira's server was inseparable from the pandemic lockdown, with teenagers isolated and sometimes becoming more polarized. Extreme memes and comments about killing government agents became "downplayed to the point of a knock knock joke," his friend said.

Teixeira had begun sharing these views in high school. They didn't seem to be his primary motivation for leaking documents, but he also seemed to want his friends to “be prepared for things the government might do, reinforcing to them that the government was lying to them."

"He loved America, he loved democracy, he loved capitalism," his close friend said. "It's just that he thought the government had overstepped and was not doing their job anymore." Teixeira expressed particular anger about gun laws and transgender bathroom access, the friend said.

A common "joke" of Teixeira's was wanting to kill government agents or attack government buildings, especially the ATF. The close friend said that while as far as they knew he had never hurt anyone, he often had talked about wanting to shoot up his high school.

He enjoyed watching gory videos of death and murder and approved of the live-streamed massacres at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019, which left 51 people dead, because the victims were Muslim.

Went down a rabbit hole and found out that the co-founder of Gypsy Kings is a guy called Jalloul Bouchikhi who's originally Moroccan. His brother, Ahmed Bouchiki, was assassinated in 1973 by Mossad agents in Norway. Bouchikhi, a waiter, had been mistaken for Ali Hassan Salameh.
