A helpful exercise for this "it's OK to track students if we support them" argument is to change "students" to "faculty" and think about how it would go over.

According to the Post, colleges use the data to ensure that student-athletes who are receiving scholarships are attending classes regularly.
-
My issue is that the headline and the post isn't being honest. Not every student is being required and not even the athletes are being required to do this. 1. There isn't a requirement to do it. 2. It's only students athletes on scholarships they are asking to do this.

the papayahga tweet is just silly hair splitting. Scholarship athletes are more danger of missing class because some alumni want to bother them than for any other reason.

Sounds really familiar to anyone who’s punched a clock. In other words, student athletes are employees. Next will be drug testing, then hopefully payroll.
