I'm sure our rabid fear of "the Ruskies" fanned the flames of this conflict, but as far as we know the Russians have been far more aggressive in the last decade. Again, that's "as far as we know." Who the hell knows what our spooks have been doing unchecked? Oversight needed!

Justified fear. RuSSian state TV has regular segments on how to exterminate Ukrainians, invade the Balts, starve the Poles, squash Berlin etc. but they hate Americans most of all. If you speak Russian you already know this. If you don't I suggest following
@JuliaDavisNews. -
So you haven’t actually reached these conclusions based on your own visits to Russia or talking extensively to people who currently live there?
-
A little tip: Russian is my mother tongue. I live much, much closer to ruSSia than you. Let's leave it at that. My parents watch ruSSian state TV every day all day.
-
Russian is also my mother tongue and I’ve been working on issues in the post-Soviet states for years.
-
I didn't know your background. Has someone actually suggested that ruSSia's human rights abuses justify America's problems? Ever? I have never heard of such an argument. Usually ruSSia uses this type of
#Whataboutism. -
This is an argument someone was making in my TL just yesterday. So yes.

It turns out that just because you didn’t see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

As a Ukrainian American, who is well educated on Russian crimes & delusions of grandeur, I give much side-eye to Russians who minimize their country's history. Western democracies are currenlty being undermined by Russia for a reason. They prefer authoritarian rule.
-
I don’t think the Russian government cares how Western democracies are ruled so long as they are weak and compliant.
-
Your comment makes no sense. Western democracies are ruled by democratic norms, which include human rights as a major tenet. Russia has made clear human rights is not a priority and they resent being lectured about it. Authoritarians unite is their motto.

Russia’s human rights record bad treatment of journalists also bad. American exceptionalism xenophobia and nationalistic tendencies bad bad bad. Also are you positive you know more about the subject than everyone who engages you? Mon dieu!!
-
I am positive that I know more than the particular sort of American who feels the need to give me this lecture, yes. I have been doing human rights work in the region for almost a decade.

Your humility is noted.

Russians became a perfectly acceptable group of people to demonize and scapegoat. But Trump is a Nazi.
-
Trump is bad and demonizing Russians is bad. These things are not mutually exclusive.
-
My argument wasn't Trump isn't bad. But a Nazi?

-
"Is Trump actually a Nazi?" is the single most uninteresting question I can think of right now.
-
Not to a lot of jewish friends I have though. Some of whom came to the USA when their parents fled the Nazi's and others after WW II. To them this is a *very real* question. I've had plenty of conversations. It's not hype. It's not victimhood. They are genuinely concerned.
-
I feel like "will somebody wind up in camps during Trump's time in office" is a much *more* interesting question than "is Trump a nazi?" But it *is* a different question.
-
People are already in camps. Babies. Babies are in camps.

They are illegal immigrants. They are detained. That is the law.
