I've already received questions about this sudden decision, so as managing editor of the site for the past 5.5 yrs, I want to be as transparent as I can, take the opportunity to reflect on the value of the site and to thank the many, many people involved with it.

In my view, since it launched in 2011,
@OpenCanada has been one of the few places in Canadian journalism & academia spaces for critical thinking specifically around global issues from a Cdn perspective.Prikaži ovu nit -
Great work is being done elsewhere of course, and we could never cover as many topics as we hoped, but there been countless pieces published that may not have been elsewhere on diplomacy, human rights, climate action, gender equality, refugees, peace operations & much more.

I was not part of recent decision making so I can't shed light on that, but I personally hope the site may be revived down the road or that another org may see an opportunity to continue asking critical
#cdnfp questions & providing a platform for voices that should be heard.Prikaži ovu nit -
There were some exciting & important stories in the works, for instance, on what academics headed to Hawaii for
#ISA2020 in March should reflect on from a reconciliation perspective. And many more. I hope all of those good stories find a home.Prikaži ovu nit -
I've been incredibly lucky to have been part of this project. I am grateful to
@taylor_owen for that opportunity. It was a team effort —@CatTsalikis was instrumental and a great editing partner. Read everything she wrote for us, and everything she will no doubt write in future.Prikaži ovu nit -
To the organizations with which we had ongoing partnerships (formal and informal): thank you for your collaboration and all the best going forward:

To the list of people within the policy, academic & journalistic community who supported, contributed to and read the site: You made it what it is. THANK YOU. You inspired me personally, every day. (I started making a list to tag, but it was far too long. You know who you are!)

I learned so much from some fabulous and talented colleagues, from writers with incredible expertise, from conducting interviews with people making a global impact, from engaging with a diversity of perspectives. It has been a real pleasure.

And so onto the next project for me, but I'll end by sharing just some of the content I had the privilege of working on over the years:
